Revisiting Stuart Hall's foundational work on ‘new ethnicities’ and building on recent critiques of anti-racist struggles premised on mainstream media visibility and recognition, we explore how British South Asian women are navigating opportunities opened up by the digitalization of media industries. First, we examine how an interlocking set of shifts involving social media, techniques of self-making, and media industry logics has sparked the curation of ethnicities that challenge dominant ideas of Britishness and cultural citizenship. We then show that their success hinges on performing two forms of labour: crafting brand-ready representations that satisfy the media industries’ diversity mandates and, at the same time, subsuming their religious and ethnic identities into a picture of entrepreneurial womanhood that resonates with the logics of popular feminism."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1177/13678779221120435"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/113265"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.relation.doi","10.1177/13678779221120435"],["dc.subject.gro","diaspora"],["dc.subject.gro","digital platforms"],["dc.subject.gro","gender"],["dc.subject.gro","race and ethnicity"],["dc.subject.gro","religion"],["dc.subject.gro","social media"],["dc.title","Curating new ethnicities in a digital era: Women and media work in the British South Asian diaspora"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","no"],["dc.type.subtype","original_ja"],["dc.type.version","published_version"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]

This paper explores two questions: (1) Does breast cancer lead to an increased drop-out of paid work? (2) Do other factors, apart from their illness, help explain breast cancer survivors' (temporary) retirement from work? To the best of our knowledge, this is the first comparative and prospective study on breast cancer survivors returning to work in Germany. We consider this work to be a relevant research for three reasons: (1) It exceeds the observation period of previous international studies by another 3 years. (2) By including the comparison with a population sample, it allows to take the specific situation of breast cancer patients into account. This refers to their illness as well as to the socio-economic context. (3) It combines qualitative and quantitative methods in order to receive patients' individual interpretations."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1007/s00520-013-1739-1"],["dc.identifier.pmid","23417517"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/63155"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/111641"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.relation.eissn","1433-7339"],["dc.relation.issn","0941-4355"],["dc.relation.issn","1433-7339"],["dc.title","Return to work after treatment for primary breast cancer over a 6-year period: results from a prospective study comparing patients with the general population"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","no"],["dc.type.subtype","original_ja"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]

The article describes the relationship between scientific knowledge and knowledge that is oriented to feminism. It is based on empirical data from problem-centred interviews on feminists’ practices of resistance and a discourse analysis of the relevant knowledge representations of women’s and gender studies literature. Feminist practices of resistance are understood as either discursive or nondiscursive practices that oppose the products of the gender dispositif. These practices are based on a specific knowledge of gender that presents itself as reflective and arises in the interplay between (internal and external) experiences, an exchange with others and one’s own search for answers (e.g. in women’s and gender studies), resulting in ambivalent feminist practices."],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/117170"],["dc.language.iso","de"],["dc.relation.doi","10.3224/gender.v14i3.07"],["dc.relation.issn","2196-4467"],["dc.relation.orgunit","Institut für Diversitätsforschung"],["dc.title","Feministisches Geschlechterwissen: neue Perspektiven zur Verhältnisbestimmung zwischen Geschlechterforschung und Feminist*innen"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]
