At the site, tap water and treated wastewater were intermittently infiltrated into a porous aquifer via a small pilot pond. Electrical conductivity data was used to calibrate the non-reactive transport models. Transport and attenuation of the organic trace pollutants were simulated assuming 1st order degradation and linear adsorption. Sorption was found to be largely insignificant at this site for the compounds under investigation. In contrast flow path averaged first order degradation rate constants were mostly higher compared to the literature and lay between 0.036 d(-1) for clofibric acid and 0.9 d(-1) for ibuprofen, presumably owing to the high temperatures and a well adapted microbial community originating from the wastewater treatment process. The study highlights the necessity to obtain intrinsic attenuation parameters at each site, as findings cannot easily be transferred from one site to another. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. The calibrated model and the corresponding sensitivity analysis demonstrated that temporal and spatial redox zonation at the study site was driven by seasonally changing, temperature-dependent organic matter degradation rates. Breakthrough of phenazone at monitoring wells occurred primarily during the warmer summer months, when anaerobic conditions developed. Assuming a redox-sensitive phenazone degradation behavior the model results provided an excellent agreement between simulated and measured phenazone concentrations. Therefore, the fate of phenazone was shown to be indirectly controlled by the infiltration water temperature through its effect on the aquifer's redox conditions. Other factors such as variable residence times appeared to be of less importance."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1021/es052506t"],["dc.identifier.isi","000241628800021"],["dc.identifier.pmid","17144286"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/24202"],["dc.notes.status","zu prüfen"],["dc.notes.submitter","Najko"],["dc.publisher","Amer Chemical Soc"],["dc.relation.issn","0013-936X"],["dc.title","Modeling seasonal redox dynamics and the corresponding fate of the pharmaceutical residue phenazone during artificial recharge of groundwater"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.peerReviewed","yes"],["dc.type.status","published"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI PMID PMC WOS2006Conference Abstract [["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","ABSTRACTS OF PAPERS OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","232"],["dc.contributor.author","Greskowiak, Janek"],["dc.contributor.author","Prommer, Henning"],["dc.contributor.author","Massmann, Gudrun"],["dc.contributor.author","Nuetzmann, Gunnar"],["dc.contributor.author","Pekdeger, Asaf"],["dc.date.accessioned","2018-11-07T09:15:44Z"],["dc.date.available","2018-11-07T09:15:44Z"],["dc.date.issued","2006"],["dc.format.extent","538"],["dc.identifier.isi","000207781604469"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/27769"],["dc.notes.status","zu prüfen"],["dc.notes.submitter","Najko"],["dc.publisher","Amer Chemical Soc"],["dc.publisher.place","Washington"],["dc.relation.issn","0065-7727"],["dc.title","Redox changes during alternating saturated and unsaturated conditions below an artificial recharge pond"],["dc.type","conference_abstract"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.peerReviewed","yes"],["dc.type.status","published"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details WOS
