Compound 2 contains the Al-O-Si-O-Al heterotrimetallic dioxide chain. Compound 3 features an Al(mu-O)](2)P four-membered ring, while compound 4 exhibits a P-O-Al-O-P chain structure. Compound 5 contains the benzo-aluminum-dioxide organic-inorganic hybrid five-membered ring. Furthermore, the aluminum monohydride [o-C6H4N(C(6)H(3)iPr(2)-2,6)(CH(2)NC(6)H(3)iPr(2)-2,6)]AlH(NMe3) (2) was prepared by treatment of the anilido-imine ligand o-C6H4N(C(6)H(3)iPr(2)-2,6)(CH = NC(6)H(3)iPr(2)-2,6) (L ) with H3AlNMe3 in high yield. The formations of the two complexes both involve aluminum hydride addition to the C=N double bond. Compound 2 is an unusual aluminum Schiff base, which exhibits a C3NAlO six- and a C2NAlO five-membered ring, which share the same AlN coordinate bond. Moreover the aluminum atom is five-coordinate and functions as the center of the three heterocycles. Compound 3 features an organic-inorganic hybrid containing a C2N2Al five-membered ring. However, the same reaction in THF resulted in the ring opening of THF with formation of {[1, 6-(Me3SiN)(2)C6H4]AlH}(2)O(CH2)(4)NMe3 (3) in good yield. Both the spectroscopic data in solution as well as the X-ray crystallographic data confirmed that a THF molecule underwent a ring-opening reaction. Compound 2 is the first monomeric aluminum hydride compound containing the 1, 6-bis(trimethylsilylamino)benzene. Compound 3 exhibits an intermolecular zwitterion of composition O-(CH2)(4)NMe3+ between two aluminum atoms. All complexes (2, 3, and 4) contain the COAlOC framework. These complexes have been characterized by IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR, elemental analyses, and single-crystal X-ray structural analysis.
