We seek to contribute to this discussion by presenting data obtained in a population of German children and adolescents.; METHODS: Nationwide, whole population changes in inpatient admissions of BD and other psychiatric disorders between 2000 and 2007 were analyzed in individuals aged up to 19 years using registry data from the German Federal Health Monitoring System.; RESULTS: Inpatient admissions for BD in individuals aged up to 19 years increased from 1.13 to 1.91 per 100,000 or 68.5% between 2000 and 2007 (odds ratio: 1.69; 95% confidence interval: 1.41-2.02), with a nonsignificant decline in children less than 15 years and the largest relative increase in adolescents aged 15-19 years. Inpatient rates for depressive disorders increased by 219.6% and for hyperkinetic disorder by 111.3%. Conduct disorders increased by 18.1%, considerably less than the 38.1% general rise for all mental disorders in children and adolescents. The only significant decline in a diagnostic category occurred for psychotic disorders (-11.8%). BD inpatient admission represented only 0.22% of all mental disorder admissions in 2000 and 0.27% in 2007.; CONCLUSIONS: An elevation of inpatient admissions of BD in Germany in adolescents was detected, exceeding the general trend for increased mental disorder admissions. The results may indicate a higher clinical awareness and appreciation of mood symptoms at earlier ages and, in part, a reconceptualization of previously diagnosed psychotic disorders in youth. However, a diagnosis of BD in youngsters is still extremely rare in Germany. Diagnoses were based on the judgment of the treating physician. A correction for multiple admissions in the data set is not possible."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1111/j.1399-5618.2010.00794.x"],["dc.identifier.gro","3151989"],["dc.identifier.pmid","20402708"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/8832"],["dc.notes.intern","WoS Import 2017-07-25"],["dc.notes.status","final"],["dc.notes.submitter","PUB_WoS_Import"],["dc.relation.issn","1399-5618"],["dc.title","Bipolar disorder in children and adolescents in Germany: national trends in the rates of inpatients, 2000-2007"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.peerReviewed","yes"],["dc.type.subtype","original"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI PMID PMC2014Review [["dc.bibliographiccitation.issue","1"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Restorative neurology and neuroscience"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","32"],["dc.contributor.author","Poustka, Luise"],["dc.contributor.author","Brandeis, Daniel"],["dc.contributor.author","Hohmann, Sarah"],["dc.contributor.author","Holtmann, Martin"],["dc.contributor.author","Bolte, Sven"],["dc.contributor.author","Banaschewski, Tobias"],["dc.date.accessioned","2017-09-07T11:46:56Z"],["dc.date.available","2017-09-07T11:46:56Z"],["dc.date.issued","2014"],["dc.description.abstract","Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are heterogeneous, neurodevelopmental disorders with early onset, characterized by a triad of impairments in reciprocal interaction and communication as well as repetitive and restricted interests and activities. Though underlying causes still remain largely unknown, there is now evidence for abnormal growth trajectories in the early brain development in ASD during vulnerable periods and subsequent impairment of neuronal organization and differentiation of neuronal networks. A growing number of studies over the last 10 years support the efficacy of behaviorally based interventions in ASD for the improvement of social communication and behavioral functioning. In contrast, research on neurobiologically based therapies for ASD is still at its beginnings. In this article, we will provide a selective overview of novel interventions and trainings based on neurobiological principles. Directions and options for future research on treatment aiming at restoration of normal plasticity in disrupted brain circuits in ASD are discussed."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.3233/RNN-139010"],["dc.identifier.gro","3151962"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/8802"],["dc.notes.intern","WoS Import 2017-07-25"],["dc.notes.status","final"],["dc.notes.submitter","PUB_WoS_Import"],["dc.relation.issn","1878-3627"],["dc.title","Neurobiologically based interventions for autism spectrum disorders-rationale and new directions"],["dc.type","review"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.peerReviewed","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI2021Journal Article [["dc.bibliographiccitation.firstpage","214"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.issue","2"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Brain Sciences"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","11"],["dc.contributor.affiliation","Kaiser, Anna; Methodik: In einer offenen Inanspruchnahme Studie wurden Kinder im Alter von 8–13 Jahren, die einmalig der Polizei durch delinquente Handlungen auffällig geworden waren; eingeschlossen. The aim of the study was to examine associations between family impact of child ADHD and child, mother and family characteristics in multiplex families with children and mothers both affected by ADHD. One hundred and forty-four mother-child pairs were assessed (children: mean age 9.4±1.7years, 73.6% male). Family impact of child ADHD was rated by mothers using the Family Impact Questionnaire (FIQ). Multiple linear regression analyses were performed with child and maternal psychopathology and basic family characteristics such as employment, partnership status and number of children as predictors and FIQ subscores as criteria. Rates of variance explained by family variables were 49% for negative feelings towards the child, 37% for impact on partnership, 31% for impact on social life and 27% for impact on finances (p<.001, respectively). Pearson correlations with family impact were especially strong for child externalizing symptoms, maternal ADHD and co-morbid symptoms of the mother. The strongest independent predictor was oppositional defiant child behaviour. In ADHD multiplex families, mothers' perception of the impact of an ADHD child on its family can be explained to a substantial degree by child psychopathology, maternal psychopathology and basic family characteristics. Although a cross-sectional design does not allow for causal interpretations, the findings of this study offer important targets for the treatment of ADHD in a family context pointing to the need for assessing and treating parental mental health and co-morbid symptoms besides ADHD core symptoms."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1007/s12402-014-0164-8"],["dc.identifier.gro","3151214"],["dc.identifier.pmid","25588606"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/7993"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","WoS Import 2017-07-25"],["dc.notes.status","final"],["dc.notes.submitter","PUB_WoS_Import"],["dc.relation.issn","1866-6647"],["dc.title","Child impact on family functioning: a multivariate analysis in multiplex families with children and mothers both affected by attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.peerReviewed","yes"],["dc.type.subtype","original"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI PMID PMC2010Journal Article [["dc.bibliographiccitation.firstpage","177"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.issue","3"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Kindheit und Entwicklung"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.lastpage","183"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","19"],["dc.contributor.author","Poustka, Luise"],["dc.contributor.author","Rehm, Anna"],["dc.contributor.author","Holtmann, Martin"],["dc.contributor.author","Bock, Marita"],["dc.contributor.author","Böhmert, Christoph"],["dc.contributor.author","Dziobek, Isabel"],["dc.date.accessioned","2018-06-11T11:10:34Z"],["dc.date.available","2018-06-11T11:10:34Z"],["dc.date.issued","2010"],["dc.description.abstract","Bei Autismus-Spektrum-Storungen (ASD) wird von einem generellen Defizit der Empathie ausgegangen. The objective of our randomized controlled trial was to evaluate whether the treatment for maternal ADHD improves the efficacy of a behavioural parent training for children's ADHD. Patient enrolment and a description of the full analysis set (FAS) of mother-child pairs with non-missing baseline data are presented. One hundred and forty-four mother-child pairs were randomized to two treatments for maternal ADHD: cognitive behavioural group psychotherapy plus open methylphenidate treatment or control treatment (supportive counselling). After 3 months of treatment for maternal ADHD, mother-child pairs participated in a behavioural parent-child training. Assessment for eligibility included standardized instruments. After pre-screening out of 444 mother-child pairs, 206 were evaluated for trial participation and 144 were randomized. The FAS was built up by 143 dyads (children: mean age 9.4 years, 73 % males; mothers: mean age: 38.3 years). Fifty-two per cent of the children and 66 % of the mothers had combined ADHD subtype. Current axis-I co-morbidity rates were 48 % in children and 31 % in mothers. Maternal axis-II co-morbidity was 20.1 %. Fifty-seven per cent of the mothers lived together with the father of the index-child, and 29 % were single mothers. Sixty-two per cent had part-time or full-time employment. There was a selection bias excluding mothers with lack of time and effort for participation and mothers affected by coexisting mental and physical illness. Nevertheless, for our trial we were able to collect a sample comparable to routine psychiatric outpatient settings (registration: CCT-ISRCTN73911400, funding: BMBF-01GV0605)."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1007/s12402-012-0092-4"],["dc.identifier.gro","3151968"],["dc.identifier.pmid","23070786"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/8809"],["dc.notes.intern","WoS Import 2017-07-25"],["dc.notes.status","final"],["dc.notes.submitter","PUB_WoS_Import"],["dc.relation.issn","1866-6647"],["dc.title","A randomized controlled multicentre trial on the treatment for ADHD in mothers and children: enrolment and basic characteristics of the study sample"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.peerReviewed","yes"],["dc.type.subtype","original"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI PMID PMC
