Abstract
Since the mid 1990s, various internetbased information systems for intercompany exchange of product and processing- related data between farmers and the up and downstream value addition stages have been developed. Although most IT solutions have in the meantime become relatively effective, farmers continue to favour the more traditional channels of communication (post, fax etc.). This article addresses the lack of acceptance of internet- based, inter-organisational information systems on the basis of the results of a survey of 873 pig farmers. The statistical analysis is based on an exploratory model, in which not only determinants from acceptance research, but also constructs specifically tailored to inter-organisational information systems are investigated. The results were validated using a binarylogistic regression analysis. The findings of this investigation show that the use of internet-based information systems is significantly influenced by the intensity of vertical coordination of the business relationship between farmers and slaughterhouses.
