Abstract
It ist noticeable that the term region is used very differently and often unclearly in the vividly discussed terms of regionalization in recent debates on church reform. The article examines why these concepts are so popular and what opportunities they offer. The concept of the region is interpreted as a "pathos formula" that offers no sulutions but can guide the search for solutions to structural problems of the church and ints missionary challenge.
