These ist, dass der Rezeption der Commedia darin eine treibende Kraft zukommt. Entgegen der Ansicht, dass sich Maler wie Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo oder Botticelli dem neuplatonischen Dante-Kommentar Cristoforo Landinos nur anschlossen, will dieser Artikel zeigen, dass sie einen eigenen, sehr scharfsinnigen Zugang zur »Commedia« fanden. La figura di chiave per evidenziare questa connessione sorprendente è Giorgio Pasquali che prima della prima guerra mondiale giunse a Gottinga dove proseguì i suoi studi, fece la abilitazione e fu nominato professore. Lo scoppio della guerra poi lo costrinse a ritornare in Italia, a Firenze dove avrebbe praticato e propagato la nuova metodologia filologica tedesca. È vero che fin dall’Ottocento gli storici e filologi italiani s’ispirarono alle metodologie filologiche tedesche. Pasquali, tuttavia, andò oltre confrontandosi con i raffinamenti che Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorf aveva apportato allo studio e all’edizione dei testi antichi.
