The possibility of land reallocation gives rise to the problem of tenure insecurity which reduces farm households' incentives to invest in the land and to use the labor forces efficiently and hence negatively affect farmers' income. In this study, the normalized quadratic profit function is used to analyze profit maximization problems in farm households in the Zhejiang and Hubei provinces of China from 1995 to 2002. Additional variables have been introduced to capture the effects of a series of institutional environment and factor market constraints, including land insecurity, crop cultivation structure, labor input and capital input allocations between agricultural and non-agricultural productions. Our results indicate that, although the official controls on rural labor mobility have been relaxed, the rural labor market has not yet reached the optimal level, and a less-than-optimal level of labor input is devoted to non-agriclutural activities for farm households in both provinces. Furthermore, the negative effects of land tenure insecurity on farmhousehold income through the interactions with the other three input allocations are observed in the Hubei province."],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/12177"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.preprint","yes"],["dc.notes.status","final"],["dc.relation.conference","28th Triennial Conference of the International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE)"],["dc.relation.eventend","24 August, 2012"],["dc.relation.eventlocation","Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil"],["dc.relation.eventstart","18 August, 2012"],["dc.relation.iserratumof","yes"],["dc.title","The impact of land security and input allocation on farm household income"],["dc.type","conference_paper"],["dc.type.internalPublication","unknown"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]

In this study, two tube configurations are employed to study the onset of detonation in stoichiometric methane–oxygen mixtures, i.e., a smooth tube and a tube with a single orifice plate placed in the entrance of the self-sustained detonation transmission. Combustion wave velocity measurement and soot-foil visualization are used to characterize the initiation of detonation. The dimensionless parameters correlated with cell size, tube diameter, and orifice diameter are introduced to analyze the detonation initiation process. The results indicate that the dependence of the detonation initiation distance on the initial pressure as a whole is close to inverse proportionality, and the fitting degree is higher for the detonation re-initiation downstream of the orifice plate. The effect of inherent instability of CH4–2O2 on the onset of detonation is significantly enhanced when the cell size is smaller than the characteristic dimension of an unobstructed tube, either for deflagration-to-detonation transition in a smooth tube or for the detonation re-initiation downstream of an orifice plate."],["dc.description.sponsorship"," National Natural Science Foundation of China http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100001809"],["dc.description.sponsorship","Advanced Petrochemical Equipment and Safety System Innovation Team of Dalian University of Technology"],["dc.description.sponsorship"," National Natural Science Foundation of China http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100001809"],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1007/s00193-022-01087-1"],["dc.identifier.pii","1087"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/114392"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI-Import GROB-600"],["dc.relation.eissn","1432-2153"],["dc.relation.issn","0938-1287"],["dc.rights.uri","https://www.springer.com/tdm"],["dc.title","Comparative study on the onset of detonation in methane–oxygen mixtures: initiation in a smooth tube and re-initiation downstreamof a single orifice plate"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.subtype","original_ja"],["dc.type.version","published_version"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]

Furthermore, it combines machine learning results with econometric models to study determinants of cluster affiliation. Eggs are an inexpensiv, nutritious and sustainable animal food. Contextually, China is the largest country in the world in terms of both egg production and consumption. Regional clustering can help governments to imporve the precision of price policies and help producers make better investment decisions. The results are purely driven by data.\n \n \n Design/methodology/approach\n The study introduces dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm which takes into account time series properties to analyze provincial egg prices in China. The results are compared with several other algorithms, such as TADPole. DTW is superior, though it is computationally expensive. After the clustering, a multinomial logit model is run to study the determinants of cluster affiliation.\n \n \n Findings\n The study identified three clusters. The first cluster including 12 provinces and the second cluster including 2 provinces are the main egg production provinces and their neighboring provinces in China. The third cluster is mainly egg importing regions. Clusters 1 and 2 have higher price volatility. The authors confirm that due to transaction costs, the importing areas may have less price volatility.\n \n \n Practical implications\n The machine learning techniques could help governments make more precise policies and help producers make better investment decisions.\n \n \n Originality/value\n This is the first paper to use machine learning techniques to cluster food prices. It also combines machine learning and econometric models to better study price dynamics."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1108/CAER-01-2022-0003"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/114619"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI-Import GROB-600"],["dc.relation.issn","1756-137X"],["dc.title","Food price dynamics and regional clusters: machine learning analysis of egg prices in China"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]

To understand this phenomenon better, a classification scheme for strategic entrepreneurial choices in agriculture is developed for family farmers. The choices that are scrutinized are reduction, continuation, expansion, diversification, and the dual strategy of expansion and diversification. Each farmer is uniquely assigned to one of these choice classes according to their implemented entrepreneurial activities. Determinants influencing these choices are investigated with a multinomial logit model. The data are derived from a quantitative survey among German farmers (N = 745). Strong effects are observable within the area of personal factors; creativity and risk affinity benefit entrepreneurial strategies connected with diversification. Farmers with a third‐level education qualification are less likely to follow expansion strategies, and those with off‐farm employment and risk‐averse farmers mainly choose a reduction strategy. Family involvement, especially the farmer's spouse, proves to have stabilizing and even enhancing effects on certain strategies. Implications for policymakers and actors within the agricultural sector can thus be derived."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1002/agr.21691"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/83372"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI Import GROB-399"],["dc.relation.eissn","1520-6297"],["dc.relation.issn","0742-4477"],["dc.rights","This is an open access article under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution‐NonCommercial‐NoDerivs License, which permits use and distribution in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited, the use is non‐commercial and no modifications or adaptations are made."],["dc.title","Analyzing strategic entrepreneurial choices in agriculture—Empirical evidence from Germany"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]
