The project aimed at advancing long-term sustainable development of irrigated rice landscapes against risks arising from multiple aspects of global change. It encompassed 20 contract partners from six countries and two international organisations as core members as well as numerous associated partners and/or advisory board members (see addresses of authors). LEGATO was part of the framework programme ‘FONA—Research for Sustainability’ (a funding scheme of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research—BMBF) and was supported by GLUES—the scientific coordination and synthesis project (http://modul-a.nachhaltiges-landmanagement.de/en/scientific-coordination-glues/). LEGATO followed the framework of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA 2005) by selecting characteristic elements of three MA service strands for analyses: (a) Provisioning Services: primary production, plant diversity, crop yield; (b) Regulating and Supporting Services: biocontrol, pollination and nutrient cycling; and (c) Cultural Services: cultural diversity and aesthetics/beauty. The analysis of ecosystem services was embedded in studies of socio-cultural and economic backgrounds, local as well as regional land use intensity and biodiversity, and the potential impacts of future climate and land use change. As core output, LEGATO developed generally applicable principles of Ecological Engineering (EE), adapting, testing and implementing them under the given local socio-cultural conditions, for the stabilisation and improvement of agricultural production under future climate and land use change. EE is an emerging discipline, concerned with the design, monitoring and construction of ecosystems and aims at developing strategies to optimise the delivery of ecosystem services by enhancing natural regulation mechanisms instead of suppressing them (see also Gurr et al. 2003; Mitsch 2012; Horgan et al. 2016). Along these lines, LEGATO further aimed at generating new knowledge bases for decision making in the area of sustainable land management and livelihoods, including the support of governance and management strategies, technologies and system solutions (Truong et al. 2016)."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1007/s10333-018-0656-9"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/61878"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.relation.issn","1611-2490"],["dc.relation.issn","1611-2504"],["dc.title","Rice ecosystem services in South-east Asia"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI2021Journal Article Research Paper [["dc.bibliographiccitation.firstpage","107346"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","314"],["dc.contributor.author","Fried, Oliver"],["dc.contributor.author","Westphal, Catrin"],["dc.contributor.author","Schellenberg, Jenny"],["dc.contributor.author","Grescho, Volker"],["dc.contributor.author","Kühn, Ingolf"],["dc.contributor.author","Van Sinh, Nguyen"],["dc.contributor.author","Settele, Josef"],["dc.contributor.author","Bergmeier, Erwin"],["dc.date.accessioned","2021-06-01T09:41:08Z"],["dc.date.available","2021-06-01T09:41:08Z"],["dc.date.issued","2021"],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1016/j.agee.2021.107346"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/84829"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI-Import GROB-425"],["dc.relation.issn","0167-8809"],["dc.title","Vascular plant species diversity in Southeast Asian rice ecosystems is determined by climate and soil conditions as well as the proximity of non-paddy habitats"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.subtype","original_ja"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI2022Journal Article [["dc.bibliographiccitation.artnumber","110857"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Journal of Psychosomatic Research"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","157"],["dc.contributor.author","Herrmann-Lingen, C."],["dc.contributor.author","Zelenak, C."],["dc.contributor.author","Nagel, J."],["dc.contributor.author","Bersch, K."],["dc.contributor.author","Wicker, M."],["dc.contributor.author","Herbeck Belnap, B."],["dc.contributor.author","Friede, T."],["dc.contributor.author","Lühmann, D."],["dc.contributor.author","Ousager, J."],["dc.contributor.author","Stock, S."],["dc.contributor.author","Pedersen, S."],["dc.date.accessioned","2022-09-01T09:49:42Z"],["dc.date.available","2022-09-01T09:49:42Z"],["dc.date.issued","2022"],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1016/j.jpsychores.2022.110857"],["dc.identifier.pii","S0022399922001428"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/113505"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI-Import GROB-597"],["dc.relation.issn","0022-3999"],["dc.title","Evaluation of a patient-centred biopsychoSocial blended collaborative CAre Pathway for the treatment of multi-morbid Elderly patients – The ESCAPE clinical study"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI2018Journal Article [["dc.bibliographiccitation.firstpage","359"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.issue","2"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Paddy and Water Environment"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.lastpage","378"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","16"],["dc.contributor.author","Fried, Oliver"],["dc.contributor.author","Kühn, Ingolf"],["dc.contributor.author","Schrader, Julian"],["dc.contributor.author","Sinh Nguyen, Van"],["dc.contributor.author","Bergmeier, Erwin"],["dc.date.accessioned","2020-12-10T14:11:16Z"],["dc.date.available","2020-12-10T14:11:16Z"],["dc.date.issued","2018"],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1007/s10333-018-0657-8"],["dc.identifier.eissn","1611-2504"],["dc.identifier.issn","1611-2490"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/71025"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI Import GROB-354"],["dc.title","Plant diversity and composition of rice field bunds in Southeast Asia"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI2015Journal Article [["dc.bibliographiccitation.firstpage","269"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.issue","3"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Phytocoenologia"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.lastpage","290"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","45"],["dc.contributor.author","Koenig, Peter"],["dc.contributor.author","Fried, Oliver"],["dc.date.accessioned","2018-11-07T09:49:22Z"],["dc.date.available","2018-11-07T09:49:22Z"],["dc.date.issued","2015"],["dc.description.abstract","The coast of Oman harbours a set of mostly halophytic plant communities. The NE coastline from Muscat to Ras al-Hadd, comprising about 200 km, was chosen for a detailed analysis of the vegetation by means of edaphic parameters, a semi-quantitative transect technique and releves based on the Braun-Blanquet method. Additionally, the relationship between photosynthetic pathway types and environmental factors was examined. Thus, complementary data on vegetation, environmental conditions and ecophysiology were comparatively evaluated. The main differentiating environmental factors causing the observed spatial patterns are salinity, water content and soil type. Sheltered lagoons are characterized by patchy mangrove vegetation with Avicennia marina. The supralittoral zone around lagoons exhibits extremely high salt contents and is home to the Halopeplis perfoliata community. Sand dunes are dominated by a Cyperus con glomeratus community, which is followed by a Heliotropium-Limonium community further onshore. The coastal plains outside the salt influence merge into open xeromorphic scrubland with Acacia species. Phytosociologically, the communities belong to the classes Avicennio-Sonneratietea, Halopeplido-Suaedetea and Acacietea tortilis. Altogether, 68 species were counted as contributing to the vegetation. We present information on the plant diversity of rice fields in major Southeast Asian centres of rice cultivation, the prevailing life forms, the plant communities, the main environmental drivers, and phytogeographic patterns that shape these communities. Study area: Seven different regions of Vietnam and the Philippines, including lowland and mountain areas (0-1390 m a.s.l.). Methods: Altogether 115 vegetation releves using the Braun-Blanquet method were recorded during wet and dry seasons between 2013 and 2015. Soil samples were collected and farmers of surveyed rice fields were interviewed. Vegetation surveys were designed to detect possible effects of soil properties, climate, altitude, geographic location, landscape heterogeneity, seasonality, management and intensity of cultivation, and structural parameters on the paddy vegetation. Hierarchical cluster analysis UPGMA was applied and NMDS ordinations were performed to visualize differences in plant community composition along the different gradients. Results: We found 113 vascular plant species, with annual hydrophytes and therophytes being the prevailing life forms. Sixty of the recorded species appear to be globally rare. We revealed four clusters of plant communities which are explained mainly by soil acidity, crop height and temperature: Paspalum distichum-Hydrolea zeylanica community; Echinochloa crus-galli community, Rotala indica-Monochoria vaginalis community and Fimbristylis littoralis-Leptochloa chinensis community. The two latter communities were further classified into regional subunits. Conclusions: We conclude that the composition of weed communities provides valuable information on environmental and biogeographical conditions of the local rice landscapes, and that it is probably the most applicable and reliable indicator of management intensity."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1127/phyto/2017/0123"],["dc.identifier.isi","000403197300004"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/42586"],["dc.notes.status","zu prüfen"],["dc.notes.submitter","PUB_WoS_Import"],["dc.publisher","Gebruder Borntraeger"],["dc.relation.issn","0340-269X"],["dc.title","Plant diversity and community composition of rice agroecosystems in Vietnam and the Philippines"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.peerReviewed","yes"],["dc.type.status","published"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI WOS2018Journal Article [["dc.bibliographiccitation.firstpage","353"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.issue","2"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Paddy and Water Environment"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.lastpage","358"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","16"],["dc.contributor.author","Nguyen, Van Sinh"],["dc.contributor.author","Nguyen, Hung Manh"],["dc.contributor.author","Klotzbücher, Anika"],["dc.contributor.author","Vetterlein, Doris"],["dc.contributor.author","Klotzbücher, Thimo"],["dc.contributor.author","Jahn, Reinhold"],["dc.contributor.author","Schneiker, Janina"],["dc.contributor.author","Türke, Manfred"],["dc.contributor.author","Fried, Oliver"],["dc.contributor.author","Bergmeier, Erwin"],["dc.contributor.author","Sattler, Cornelia"],["dc.contributor.author","Settele, Josef"],["dc.date.accessioned","2020-12-10T14:11:16Z"],["dc.date.available","2020-12-10T14:11:16Z"],["dc.date.issued","2018"],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1007/s10333-018-0644-0"],["dc.identifier.eissn","1611-2504"],["dc.identifier.issn","1611-2490"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/71024"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI Import GROB-354"],["dc.title","From science to application: field demonstrations to enhance sustainable rice production in the north of Vietnam—lessons from the LEGATO project"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI
