Dentine samples from deciduous molars and human third molars as well as from calves' and cattle's lower incisors were prepared and baseline surface profiles were recorded. Each day all samples were demineralized in 1% citric acid, tooth brushed with 100 brushing strokes with toothpaste slurry and stored in artificial saliva for the rest of the day. This cycle was run for 20 days. Afterwards, new surface profiles were recorded and dentine wear was calculated by a customized computer program. Dentine wear because of erosion/abrasion was not statistically, significantly different for human third molars and cattle's lower incisors (P = 0.7002). The dentine wear because of erosion/abrasion of deciduous molars and calves' lower incisors was significantly different (P < 0.0000). Periodontal status was retrospectively assessed based on the radiographically visible alveolar bone loss (%). Staging and grading of periodontal disease according to the 2017 classification for periodontal disease was performed. Various general and periodontal parameters, medications, and diagnoses of systemic diseases in association with periodontal diseases were analyzed as potential risk factors for bone loss. Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson correlations, Wilcoxon rank-sum tests, Kruskal-Wallis tests, and multiple linear regressions (p < 0.05).\r\nResults: Periapical radiographs were available from 199 patients (86 females; age: 41.1 ± 15.0 years). Based on a distance from the cemento-enamel junction to the marginal bone level exceeding 2 mm, 174 (87.4 %) patients were diagnosed with periodontitis (22.4 ± 20.6 % bone loss). Most periodontitis patients were classified as stage I (39.7 %), followed by stage II (29.1 %), stage III (14.1 %), and stage IV (4.5 %). Generalized periodontitis was most frequently observed in stage I patients (p ≤ 0.047). Significant predictors of % bone loss were age (β = 0.65; 95%-CI: 0.40–0.89; p < 0.001), intellectual disability (β = 11.87; 95%-CI: 1.21–22.52; p = 0.029), and smoking/nicotine dependence (β = 17.29; 95%-CI: 3.42–31.16; p = 0.015).\r\nConclusion: Periodontal disease is common in German patients with disabilities. In half of the groups, sand-blasting, silica coating, and hydrofluoric acid etching was followed by the use of a universal primer. If the universal adhesive was applied in ER, contamination was performed either before or after phosphoric acid etching. If the universal adhesive was applied in SE, bonding was performed after contamination. In the control groups, no contamination was simulated. Shear bond strength (SBS) and failure modes of composite buildups were determined after thermal cycling (10,000 cycles, 5°C-55°C). Statistical analysis was performed using analyses of variance, Weibull statistics, and χ2 tests (p<0.05).\r\nResults: In ER, sandblasting and silica coating significantly reduced SBS (control: enamel =25.7±4.2 MPa; dentin = 22.0±5.3 MPa) only when performed after phosphoric acid etching. Contamination with hydrofluoric acid impaired SBS on enamel but not on dentin. The self-etching ceramic primer reduced SBS, but not significantly. The contamination with the universal primer had no significant effect. In SE, all repair conditioning measures except the universal primer reduced SBS (control: enamel = 20.3±5.5 MPa; dentin = 23.0±4.0 MPa).\r\nConclusion: Contamination of enamel and dentin by repair conditioning measures potentially affects bond strength.\r\nClinical relevance: Contamination of enamel and dentin with repair surface conditioning measures should be avoided."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.2341/19-270-L"],["dc.identifier.pmid","32516373"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/68563"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI Import GROB-352.9"],["dc.relatedmaterial.fulltext","https://meridian.allenpress.com/operative-dentistry/article/45/6/643/436931/Repair-Surface-Conditioning-Measures-Affect-Enamel"],["dc.relation.eissn","1559-2863"],["dc.relation.issn","0361-7734"],["dc.relation.orgunit","Poliklinik für Präventive Zahnmedizin, Parodontologie und Kariologie"],["dc.title","Repair Surface Conditioning Measures Affect Enamel and Dentin Bond Strength"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.subtype","original_ja"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]

Materials and methods: Three enamel cylinders (4 mm in diameter) were prepared from the buccal surfaces of 60 bovine incisors. One sample of each tooth was used for determination of baseline fluoride content of the respective tooth. The two remaining samples were allocated to the experimental series 1 or 2, respectively. Each series consisted of five experimental groups (A-E, n = 12) and differed with respect to the length of the treatment period with the gels (A-D). The experimentally designed gels (pH 5.5) used in the study were as follows: A (10% CP), B (10% CP, 1% F- as AmF), C (1% F- as AmF), D (no CP, no F-) and were formulated on the same basis. The enamel samples were covered for 4 h with the respective gel at 37 degrees C and were then transferred to artificial saliva for 20 h (series 1). The samples of group E served as controls and were not treated with a gel. In series 2, treatment with the gels and storage in saliva was conducted seven times. Finally, the samples were assessed for KOH-soluble and structurally bound fluoride. Results: Only the enamel samples treated with the fluoridated bleaching gel (group B) and with the amine fluoride gel (group C) exhibited significant fluoride acquisition. Thereby, both gels showed significantly lower uptake in series 1 as compared to series 2. Both KOH-soluble and structurally bound fluoride acquisition was significantly higher in group C than in group B. Conclusion: Treatment with a carbamide peroxide gel supplemented with amine fluoride causes less fluoride acquisition in enamel than a pure amine fluoride gel. Under the conditions of the study, it is assumed that carbamide peroxide seems to influence enamel fluoride uptake. (C) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Single-rooted extracted teeth were prepared with nickel-titanium-instruments, sterilized, contaminated with E. faecalis, and incubated for 72 h. Roots were randomly divided into four experimental groups: PS only, LED only, aPDT with LED in the apical third, aPDT with LED in the coronal third, as well as into infection and sterile controls (each n = 10). Samples were taken by collecting standardized dentine shavings from the root canal walls. After serial dilution and culturing on blood agar, colony-forming units (CFU) were counted. Both aPDT groups showed a CFU reduction of 1-2 log(10) steps compared with the infection control, whereas the effect of fiber insertion depth was negligible (< 0.5 log(10) steps). CFU reduction of approximately 0.5 log(10) steps for PS alone was detected compared with the infection control, but PS alone was less effective than both aPDT groups. No antibacterial effect was detected for LED alone. aPDT reduced E. faecalis within the root canal, whereas fiber insertion depth had a negligible influence on antimicrobial effectiveness of aPDT.
