The introduction of non-native tree species originating from warmer climates is one option to make Central European forests compatible to global warming. This, however, requires an assessment of the species’ growth requirements, and of its impact on biodiversity in its native ranges. Silver lime (Tilia tomentosa), a moderately drought-tolerant, thermophilous tree species of South-eastern Europe is considered suitable for the future. Along three elevational transects in western Romania, we assessed the impact of changing climate and local site conditions on the abundance of this tree species and contrasted plant species diversity and composition of lime-dominated forests with mesophytic oak and beech forests. Local site conditions and disturbance histories shaped the distribution pattern of silver lime. When dominant, it reduced plant species diversity within stands due to its dense canopy. For shade-tolerant, mesophytic species, though, lime forests provided an additional habitat and extended their range into warmer environments. Thus, silver lime may have the potential as an admixed tree species forming a transitory meso-thermophilous habitat in the future. At the same time, silver lime may be limited under increasing drought frequency."],["dc.description.abstract","Climate change challenges important native timber species in Central Europe. The project aimed at advancing long-term sustainable development of irrigated rice landscapes against risks arising from multiple aspects of global change. It encompassed 20 contract partners from six countries and two international organisations as core members as well as numerous associated partners and/or advisory board members (see addresses of authors). LEGATO was part of the framework programme ‘FONA—Research for Sustainability’ (a funding scheme of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research—BMBF) and was supported by GLUES—the scientific coordination and synthesis project (http://modul-a.nachhaltiges-landmanagement.de/en/scientific-coordination-glues/). LEGATO followed the framework of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA 2005) by selecting characteristic elements of three MA service strands for analyses: (a) Provisioning Services: primary production, plant diversity, crop yield; (b) Regulating and Supporting Services: biocontrol, pollination and nutrient cycling; and (c) Cultural Services: cultural diversity and aesthetics/beauty. The analysis of ecosystem services was embedded in studies of socio-cultural and economic backgrounds, local as well as regional land use intensity and biodiversity, and the potential impacts of future climate and land use change. As core output, LEGATO developed generally applicable principles of Ecological Engineering (EE), adapting, testing and implementing them under the given local socio-cultural conditions, for the stabilisation and improvement of agricultural production under future climate and land use change. EE is an emerging discipline, concerned with the design, monitoring and construction of ecosystems and aims at developing strategies to optimise the delivery of ecosystem services by enhancing natural regulation mechanisms instead of suppressing them (see also Gurr et al. 2003; Mitsch 2012; Horgan et al. 2016). Along these lines, LEGATO further aimed at generating new knowledge bases for decision making in the area of sustainable land management and livelihoods, including the support of governance and management strategies, technologies and system solutions (Truong et al. 2016)."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1007/s10333-018-0656-9"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/61878"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.relation.issn","1611-2490"],["dc.relation.issn","1611-2504"],["dc.title","Rice ecosystem services in South-east Asia"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI2017Journal Article [["dc.bibliographiccitation.firstpage","139"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.issue","2"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Phytocoenologia"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.lastpage","165"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","47"],["dc.contributor.author","Mahdavi, Parastoo"],["dc.contributor.author","Isermann, Maike"],["dc.contributor.author","Bergmeier, Erwin"],["dc.date.accessioned","2020-12-10T18:36:47Z"],["dc.date.available","2020-12-10T18:36:47Z"],["dc.date.issued","2017"],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1127/phyto/2017/0127"],["dc.identifier.issn","0340-269X"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/76740"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI Import GROB-354"],["dc.title","Sand habitats across biogeographical regions at species, community and functional level"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI2021Journal Article [["dc.bibliographiccitation.issue","1"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Applied Vegetation Science"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","24"],["dc.contributor.author","Bonari, Gianmaria"],["dc.contributor.author","Fernández‐González, Federico"],["dc.contributor.author","Çoban, Süleyman"],["dc.contributor.author","Monteiro‐Henriques, Tiago"],["dc.contributor.author","Bergmeier, Erwin"],["dc.contributor.author","Didukh, Yakiv P."],["dc.contributor.author","Xystrakis, Fotios"],["dc.contributor.author","Angiolini, Claudia"],["dc.contributor.author","Chytrý, Kryštof"],["dc.contributor.author","Acosta, Alicia T.R."],["dc.contributor.author","Agrillo, Emiliano"],["dc.contributor.author","Costa, José C."],["dc.contributor.author","Danihelka, Jiří"],["dc.contributor.author","Hennekens, Stephan M."],["dc.contributor.author","Kavgacı, Ali"],["dc.contributor.author","Knollová, Ilona"],["dc.contributor.author","Neto, Carlos S."],["dc.contributor.author","Sağlam, Coşkun"],["dc.contributor.author","Škvorc, Željko"],["dc.contributor.author","Tichý, Lubomír"],["dc.contributor.author","Chytrý, Milan"],["dc.contributor.editor","Ewald, Jörg"],["dc.date.accessioned","2021-04-14T08:30:06Z"],["dc.date.available","2021-04-14T08:30:06Z"],["dc.date.issued","2021"],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1111/avsc.12544"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/83103"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI Import GROB-399"],["dc.relation.eissn","1654-109X"],["dc.relation.issn","1402-2001"],["dc.title","Classification of the Mediterranean lowland to submontane pine forest vegetation"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI2018Journal Article [["dc.bibliographiccitation.firstpage","1"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.issue","1"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Phytocoenologia"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.lastpage","6"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","48"],["dc.contributor.author","Willner, Wolfgang"],["dc.contributor.author","Bergmeier, Erwin"],["dc.contributor.author","Biurrun, Idoia"],["dc.date.accessioned","2020-12-10T18:36:48Z"],["dc.date.available","2020-12-10T18:36:48Z"],["dc.date.issued","2018"],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1127/phyto/2018/0271"],["dc.identifier.issn","0340-269X"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/76743"],["dc.language.iso","en"],["dc.notes.intern","DOI Import GROB-354"],["dc.title","A survey of vegetation survey papers"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI2007Journal Article [["dc.bibliographiccitation.firstpage","743"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.issue","5"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.journal","Journal of Vegetation Science"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.lastpage","750"],["dc.bibliographiccitation.volume","18"],["dc.contributor.author","Tsiripidis, Ioannis"],["dc.contributor.author","Bergmeier, Erwin"],["dc.contributor.author","Dimopoulos, Panayotis"],["dc.date.accessioned","2018-11-07T10:58:14Z"],["dc.date.available","2018-11-07T10:58:14Z"],["dc.date.issued","2007"],["dc.description.abstract","Question: Which are the gradients of floristic differentiation in Greek beech ( Fagus sylvatica) forests? Which is the role of geographical and ecological factors in this differentiation? Location: Beech forests of the plant geographical regions Northeast, North Central and East Central Greece. Methods: A total of 1404 published and unpublished phytosociological releves were used in the analyses. TWINSPAN and DCA were applied to classify and ordinate the releves. Altitude, Indicator Values of releves and their X and Y coordinates were used in a posteriori interpretation of the ordination axes. Kendall ' s correlation coeffcients were calculated between DCA releve scores and explanatory variables. Multiple linear regression was used to partition the variation explained by the. rst two DCA axes, between the geographical and the ecological variables. Results: Classiffication resulted in 14 vegetation units defined by species composition. Two types of gradients, ecological and geographical, were revealed by the DCA of all releves. The partition of the variation accounted for by the. rst and second DCA axis was attributed mainly to ecological and geographical variables, respectively. Conclusions: Beech forests of northeast and Central Greece show phytogeographical differences, while ecologically similar vegetation units occur in both regions. A west-east gradient is revealed in Greek beech forest vegetation. The extent of the study area, its position along regional gradients and the comprehensiveness of the data set that is analysed determine the types of the gradients which can be revealed in a vegetation study."],["dc.identifier.doi","10.1111/j.1654-1103.2007.tb02589.x"],["dc.identifier.isi","000248293400015"],["dc.identifier.uri","https://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gro-2/50433"],["dc.notes.status","zu prüfen"],["dc.notes.submitter","Najko"],["dc.publisher","Wiley-blackwell"],["dc.relation.issn","1654-1103"],["dc.relation.issn","1100-9233"],["dc.title","Geographical and ecological differentiation in Greek Fagus forest vegetation"],["dc.type","journal_article"],["dc.type.internalPublication","yes"],["dc.type.peerReviewed","yes"],["dc.type.status","published"],["dspace.entity.type","Publication"]]Details DOI WOS
